La Administración de Alimentos y Fármacos (FDA) de Estados Unidos está pidiendo a la industria ganadera restringir el uso de antibióticos en animales en un esfuerzo para combatir la creciente resistencia de las bacterias a estos medicamentos.

Y muchas veces el uso de estos fármacos no está dirigido al tratamiento de infecciones, sino para promover el crecimiento de los animales o mejorar su resistencia a enfermedades.

Según la FDA este «uso excesivo» está contribuyendo significativamente a la resistencia que las bacterias han desarrollado a estos medicamentos

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is asking the U.S. livestock industry to restrict the use of antibiotics in animals in an effort to combat the growing resistance of bacteria to these drugs.

And often, the use of these drugs is not intended to treat infections, but to promote animal growth or improve disease resistance.
