Ahora los investigadores han completado el esfuerzo más completo para proporcionar una visión general del estado de los mares . They hope the new Ocean Health Index will raise awareness of the connections between humans and the oceans, highlight trade-offs in how people use marine resources, and point to areas where more data are needed. Un grupo internacional de más de 30 investigadores ha ofrecido una puntuación a cada nación costera, en su contribución a la salud de los océanos del mundo, señalando la provisión de alimentos, el turismo, y la recreación, como las principales preocupaciones.

El análisis, publicado en la revista ‘Nature’, anotó cada nación en una escala de 0 a 100, en 10 categorías diferentes, tales como el agua potable, la biodiversidad, la provisión de alimentos, el almacenamiento de carbono, la protección de la costa y las economías costeras

Conservation Internacional y National Geographic, las dos principales organizaciones tras el informe, señalaron que la media global se situó en 60 en un índice que va del uno al 100

An international group of more than 30 researchers has offered a score to each coastal nation, in its contribution to the health of the world’s oceans, noting the provision of food, tourism, and recreation, as the main concerns. The analysis, published in the journal ‘Nature’, scored each nation on a scale from 0 to 100 in 10 different categories, such as drinking water, biodiversity, food supply, carbon storage, the protection of the coast and coastal economies
