VATICANO, 20 Nov. 14 / 10:39 am (ACI/EWTN Noticias).- En su intervención esta mañana en la sede de la FAO en Roma, el Papa Francisco aseguró que el hambriento, a quien los estados deben prestar siempre atención, “nos pide dignidad, no limosna”.

“Mientras se habla de nuevos derechos, el hambriento está ahí, en la esquina de la calle, y pide carta de ciudadanía, ser considerado en su condición, recibir una alimentación de base sana. Nos pide dignidad, no limosna”, dijo el Papa ante los aplausos de los presentes en la Sala de la Plenaria de la FAO.

El Santo Padre participó esta mañana en la II Conferencia Internacional sobre nutrición de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura, conocida como FAO, que se celebra en Roma desde el miércoles y finalizará este viernes.

El Papa explicó la labor de la Iglesia en materia de nutrición y destacó que “siempre trata de estar atenta y solícita respecto a todo lo que se refiere al bienestar espiritual y material de las personas, ante todo, de los que viven marginados y son excluidos, para que se garanticen su seguridad y su dignidad”.
“Vivimos en una época en la que las relaciones entre las naciones están demasiado a menudo dañadas por la sospecha recíproca, que a veces se convierte en formas de agresión bélica y económica, socava la amistad entre hermanos y rechaza o descarta al que ya está excluido”.

Esto “lo sabe bien quien carece del pan cotidiano y de un trabajo decente. Este es el cuadro del mundo, en el que se han de reconocer los límites de planteamientos basados en la soberanía de cada uno de los Estados, entendida como absoluta, y en los intereses nacionales, condicionados frecuentemente por reducidos grupos de poder”.

A continuación el Santo Padre expresó su esperanza de que “los Estados se inspiren en la convicción de que el derecho a la alimentación sólo quedará garantizado si nos preocupamos por su sujeto real, es decir, la persona que sufre los efectos del hambre y la desnutrición” para remarcar después de nuevo la preocupación del “sujeto real”.

“Tal vez nos hemos preocupado demasiado poco de los que pasan hambre. Duele constatar además que la lucha contra el hambre y la desnutrición se ve obstaculizada por la ‘prioridad del mercado’ y por la ‘preminencia de la ganancia’, que han reducido los alimentos a una mercancía cualquiera, sujeta a especulación, incluso financiera”.

El Pontífice llegó a la sede de la FAO a las 11 horas y pronunció su discurso después de la intervención de la Reina Letizia de España.

La FAO tiene como objetivo proponer y desarrollar medidas y actividades internacionales que erradiquen el hambre. En este Conferencia han participado jefes de Gobierno y de Estado de todo el mundo, así como expertos en materia de alimentación.

The Pope explained the work of the Church in matters of nutrition and stressed that «always try to be attentive and solicitous with respect to everything what refers to spiritual well-being and material of people, first of all, who live marginalized and are excluded, so to ensure their safety and dignity».

«We live in an age in which relations among Nations are often damaged by mutual suspicion, which sometimes develops in forms of military and economic assault, undermines the friendship between brothers and rejects or discard that is already excluded.»

This «knows it well who lacks the daily bread and a decent job. This is the picture of the world, which should recognize the limits of approaches based on the sovereignty of each of the States, understood as absolute, and national interests, often conditioned by small groups of power.»

Then the Holy Father expressed his hope that «States is inspired by the conviction that the right to food will only be guaranteed if we care about its real subject, i.e., the person who suffers the effects of hunger and malnutrition» to redial then again the concern of the «real subject».

«Perhaps we have worried about too little of those who are hungry.» It hurts to note also that the fight against hunger and malnutrition is hampered by ‘priority of the market’ and the ‘development of profit’, that have reduced the food to one any goods, subject to speculation, even financial».
