This research work on the ecology of the vegetation of the Cantabrian Mountain Range, was the first doctoral thesis that i  have been director, being the  student Gonzalo Martinez Garcia (1969-1974).

We  find ourselves in an area, with little or no studies geobotanical, so it was exciting and opened the way, to the new doctoral.

In those moments, what is important for the botanical of my generation was to have perfectly catalogued the iberian flora, And I remember to Oriol of Bolós to which called for the reading of one of the thesis that addressed, he told me: Matías there to do all flora because it is the basis of the Phytosociology.

With the passage of years and the evolution of thought that the time applies to all minds,If Oriol alive i would say that the thorough knowledge of the flora and their «migration»,constitutes the basis of etnopaisaje.

Oriol heard talk of the transmission of the seeds of invasive plants in an area by the highways.

This thesis was completed with the study of the upper Basin of Rio luna( Leon) in which I participated in its implementation.

In a epoca,Spain,began to be decentralized, there were start to do so in Asturias.

Past few years,the heads of the schools botanical classic,encountered in the previous era decided grouped again and centralize in Madrid all the proceedings

Este trabajo de Investigación sobre la ecología de la vegetación de la Cordillera Cantábrica, fue la primera tesis doctoral que yo dirigí , siendo el doctorando Gonzalo Martínez García (1969-1974)

Nos  situábamos en una zona, sin apenas estudios geobotánicos, por lo que resultó apasionante y abrimos el camino , a los nuevos doctorandos.

En aquellos momentos, lo importante para los botánicos  de mi generación  era tener perfectamente catalogada la flora  ibérica y recuerdo a Oriol de Bolós al que llamé para la lectura de una de las tesis doctorales que dirigí, que me dijo: Matías hay que hacer toda la flora porque es la base de la fitosociología…  

Con el paso de los años y la evolución de pensamiento que el tiempo aplica a todas las mentes, si Oriol viviera diría que

el conocimiento exhaustivo de la flora  y de sus “emigraciones”

constituye la base del etnopaisaje.

A Oriol le escuche hablar de la transmisión de las semillas de las plantas  invasoras de una zona  por las autopistas…

Esta tesis se completó con el estudio de la cuenca alta del Rio Luna( León) en la que participé  en su realización.
