El Corredor Económico China-Pakistán (CPEC, por sus siglas en inglés) no es otra cosa que un «cambio de destino», afirma el ministro federal paquistaní Ahsan Iqbal. La emoción parece ser mutua, ya que China ha mostrado el mismo entusiasmo ante este proyecto durante la visita de dos días del presidente de China, Xi Jinping, a Islamabad, que culminó el martes.

Más de 51 acuerdos y memorandos de entendimiento han sido firmados entre China y Pakistán por valor de más de 46.000 millones de dólares, la mayor inversión en la historia de Pakistán acometida por ningún país, escribe Hussain Nadim, funcionario del Ministerio de Planificación, Desarrollo y Reformas de Pakistán, en Lowy Interpreter.

El CPEC incluye principalmente proyectos de energía por valor de 35.000-37.000 millones de dólares en Pakistán, así como el desarrollo de infraestructura en todo el país por 7.000-8.000 millones de dólares. Una parte de la inversión se utilizará para el desarrollo de un ferrocarril de 3.000 kilómetros y una red de oleoductos operada por la compañía china de propiedad estatal ‘China Overseas Port Holding Company’.

Este proyecto es parte de una creciente red de corredores que unirá las zonas industriales del este de China con los mercados de Asia Central, Oriente Medio, África y Europa.
