Así lo aseguró Abu Abdullah, quien trabajó como guardaespaldas de Saddam Jamal -uno los principales jefes militares del Estado Islámico (EI)- durante una entrevista concedida al diario británico ‘The Telegraph’ después de desertar de la milicia.

Antes de unirse al EI, el exguardaespaldas afirmó que «Jamal primero fue traficante de drogas, luego sirvió en el Ejército Libre Sirio, donde obtuvo recursos provenientes desde la CIA, para después convertirse en uno de los prominentes miembros de la cúpula militar de los yihadistas».

Según Abdullah, la historia de su exjefe refleja claramente que los líderes del EI actúan de manera pragmática para aumentar sus recursos económicos y obtener mayor poder, utilizando la defensa del islam como mera retórica para ganar simpatías y legitimidad ante la población local.
