En su artículo para ‘The Wall Street Journal’, Henry Kissinger sugirió que «si las armas nucleares se establecen en Medio Oriente, un resultado catastrófico sería casi inevitable». Sin embargo, el bloguero estadounidense, James Lewis, opina que se puede evitar la catástrofe si Occidente y Rusia crean una alianza efectiva en la región.

Uno de los puntos clave del mensaje de Henry Kissinger es que el operativo antiterrorista ruso en Siria dirigido contra el Estado Islámico (EI) ha acabado con el orden político en la región de Medio Oriente liderado por EE.UU. a lo largo de cuatro décadas.
