«It must have been 1:30 p.m. when a thin, fine, bluish cloud of smoke rose up, exactly where the children were, extending about seven feet above their heads, where it evaporated. This phenomenon, perfectly visible to the naked eye, lasted for a few seconds. Because I did not realize how long this phenomenon lasted, I don’t know if it was more or less a minute. The smoke dissipated abruptly, and after a time, it reappeared, and then a third time.

He sees through a mist (there was no mist at that time), for it was not veiled or opaque.At Fatima, the sun retained its light and warmth, and stood out clearly in the sky, with a sharp margin, resembling a table of game. The most amazing thing was that you could look directly at the solar disk, without hurting your eyes or damaging the retina. [During that time], the disk of the sun did not remain motionless, it kept moving dizzyingly, [but ] not like the twinkling of a star with all its brilliance, for the disc rotated around around itself in a furious whirlpool.

«During the solar phenomenon, which I have just described, color changes also occurred in the atmosphere. Looking at the sun, I noticed that everything was getting darker. I first looked at the nearest objects and then extended my gaze to the horizon. I saw that everything had turned an amethyst color. The objects around me, the sky and the atmosphere, were the same color. Everything had changed, both near and far, taking on the yellowish color of old damask. It seemed as if people suffered from Jaundice and I remember having a feeling of amusement at how ugly and unattractive people looked.My own hand was the same colour.
