Words of Jesus: the rich young man’s response

From the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 19:16-22
At that time, someone approached Jesus and asked him: «Teacher, what good must I do to obtain eternal life?» Jesus answered him: «Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only One who is Good. Look, if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.» He asked him: «Which ones?» Jesus answered: «You shall not kill, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, honor your father and your mother, and love your neighbor as yourself.» The young man said to him: «I have kept all of these. What do I still lack?» Jesus answered him: «If you wish to go all the way, sell what you have, give the money to the poor—thus you will have a treasure in heaven—and then come with me.» Upon hearing this, the young man went away sad, for he was rich.

The young man went away sad because he possessed great wealth and was not willing to leave it behind.
