Matias Mayor

the good samaritan

And behold, a certain teacher of the law stood up to test him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 And he said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”
27 And he answered him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
28 And he said to him, “You have answered well. Do this, and you will live.”
29 But he, wanting to justify himself, asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 And Jesus answered and said to him, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, who stripped him of his clothes, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 And a certain priest happened to be going down that road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite also came to the place; when he came and saw him, he passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came to him; and when he saw him, he had compassion on him. 34 He went to him, bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two coins and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, “Take care of him for me; and whatever you spend more than that, I will repay you when I come back.”

36 Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers? 37 “Then he said, ‘The one who showed mercy to him. ’”
Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
