The Text (Luke 14:12–14)

12 He also said to the one who had invited him: «When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; otherwise, they might invite you in return, and you would already have your reward. 13 When you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind; 14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be rewarded at the resurrection of the righteous.»

Not seeking human recompense: Jesus says that if you invite those who can return the favor, you have already received your reward.
Inviting the vulnerable: He recommends inviting the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.
