La guerra civil en Siria ha llevado a la primera retirada de semillas del Banco Mundial de Semillas de Svalbard. Esta famosa b\u00f3veda ‘del fin del mundo’ fue construida en una ladera de monta\u00f1a del \u00c1rtico para proteger el suministro de alimentos a nivel mundial en caso de un cataclismo global.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The seed bank of Aleppo has maintained the operation in part, including a cold storage, despite the conflict. However, it is no longer able to maintain its role as centre of cultivation of seeds and their distribution to other Nations, mainly in Middle East, says the medium.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seeds have been requested by the International Center for agricultural research in dry areas (ICARDA), which moved its headquarters to Beirut from Aleppo in 2012, due to the war.
