La selva amaz\u00f3nica est\u00e1 en peligro de desforestaci\u00f3n debido al aumento de las plantaciones de cacao en la zona, impulsada por el crecimiento de la demanda de chocolate en el mundo, revela el estudio de la organizaci\u00f3n mundial de investigaci\u00f3n, Instituto de Recursos Mundiales, (World Resources Institute, WRI). <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan los datos de la Organizaci\u00f3n Internacional del Cacao citados por la agencia EFE<\/a>, en la \u00faltima d\u00e9cada la producci\u00f3n ha aumentado en el mundo m\u00e1s del 2%, hasta 7,3 millones de toneladas registradas en el a\u00f1o 2014. Tal crecimiento junto con la incapacidad de \u00c1frica, el proveedor hist\u00f3rico del cacao, de satisfacer la demanda debido a varios factores<\/a>\u00a0ecol\u00f3gicos, obligaron a los productores a buscar nuevas tierras para el cultivo.<\/span><\/p>\n

De acuerdo con el portavoz del Programa de Alimentos, Bosques y Agua del WRI, Ruth Noguer\u00f3n, la industria se apresur\u00f3 a poner sus ojos a la regi\u00f3n sudamericana debido a su clima favorable para este tipo de cultivo. As\u00ed, solo en Per\u00fa la producci\u00f3n de cacao aument\u00f3 cinco veces en el per\u00edodo entre 1990 y 2013, seg\u00fan los datos de la Organizaci\u00f3n de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentaci\u00f3n y la Agricultura (FAO).<\/span><\/p>\n

Los ec\u00f3logos se\u00f1alan que el cultivo de cacao como tal no causa ning\u00fan tipo de da\u00f1o para el medioambiente, pero en el caso de la selva amaz\u00f3nica lleva a la desforestaci\u00f3n catastr\u00f3fica de la zona que, por su parte, adem\u00e1s de la destrucci\u00f3n de los bosques v\u00edrgenes, aumenta las emisiones de di\u00f3xido de carbono. Las im\u00e1genes de sat\u00e9lite de la NASA<\/a>\u00a0han demostrado que el cambio ecol\u00f3gico en el territorio desforestado ya representa m\u00e1s de 602.000 toneladas de di\u00f3xido de carbono: equivalente a las emisiones que produce un coche si da 60.000 vueltas al mundo<\/span><\/p>\n
