Seg\u00fan recientes sondeos realizados por el departamento de estad\u00edstica de la Universidad de Atenas de Econom\u00eda y Negocios, casi el 80% de los encuestados en el norte de Grecia confesaron que no pueden permitirse calentar suficientemente sus hogares<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

El oto\u00f1o pasado, el Gobierno del pa\u00eds multiplic\u00f3 por cuatro los impuestos<\/a> sobre el combustible para calefacci\u00f3<\/strong>n. Actualmente, los ciudadanos necesitan pagar cerca de 1.900 d\u00f3lares para calentar un peque\u00f1o apartamento durante toda la temporada invernal, unos 600 d\u00f3lares m\u00e1s que antes de las subidas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Por ello, en estos duros tiempos de crisis econ\u00f3mica<\/a> que sufre el pa\u00eds, pocos ciudadanos logran comprar el gas\u00f3leo, por lo que empezaron a utilizar un m\u00e9todo ‘antiguo’ para afrontar el fr\u00edo: hacer hogueras de madera<\/strong>. Seg\u00fan los \u00edndices registrados en la capital griega, se destaca el crecimiento de la demanda de madera, mientras que la venta del combustible cay\u00f3 un 70% respecto al a\u00f1o anterior.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mientras tanto, las autoridades sanitarias se muestran preocupadas por el aumento de la tasa de contaminaci\u00f3n del aire<\/a><\/strong> provocado por la quema masiva de madera. Se reportan tambi\u00e9n varios casos de robo y tala ilegal de \u00e1rboles y ramas de parques de Atenas, incluyendo la desaparici\u00f3n del antiguo olivo plantado en el lugar donde, seg\u00fan se cree, Plat\u00f3n realiz\u00f3 sus estudios.

To overcome the cold of winter many Greeks are obliged to be heated by burning wood, since they cannot afford to pay for the diesel fuel for heating as soon after the record increase in the price<\/span><\/p>\n

According to recent surveys carried out by the Department of the Athens University of Economics and business statistics, almost 80% of respondents in the North of Greece confessed that they cannot afford enough heat their homes.<\/span><\/p>\n
