17 de marzo de 1991 se celebr\u00f3 un <\/strong>refer\u00e9ndum que buscaba preservar la Uni\u00f3n Sovi\u00e9tica<\/a><\/strong>, en el que la mayor\u00eda de la poblaci\u00f3n vot\u00f3 por su conservaci\u00f3n<\/strong> en nueve de las quince rep\u00fablicas sovi\u00e9ticas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tras el fracaso del intento de golpe de Estado, Yeltsin<\/strong>, luego de permanecer oculto en su residencia, apareci\u00f3 en el p\u00fablico<\/strong> y desacredit\u00f3 al Comit\u00e9 de Estado de Emergencia presidido por Yan\u00e1yev<\/a> declar\u00e1ndolo inconstitucional, mientras tanto el poder de Gorbachov disminuy\u00f3 vertiginosamente, hecho que Yeltsin aprovech\u00f3 para consolidar su poder<\/strong> y deslegitimar de una vez por todas el control del Partido Comunista<\/a> sobre el Gobierno<\/span><\/p>\n

El 8 de diciembre de 1991, los presidentes de Rusia<\/a>, Ucrania<\/a> y Bielorrusia<\/a> firmaron el <\/strong>Tratado de Belovesh<\/a><\/strong> que declar\u00f3 oficialmente la disoluci\u00f3n de la Uni\u00f3n Sovi\u00e9tica <\/strong>y el establecimiento de la Comunidad de Estados Independientes<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

On 17 March 1991 a referendum seeking to preserve the Soviet Union, in which the majority of the population voted for its conservation in nine of the fifteen Soviet republics was held. This referendum gave Gorbachev a respite and a new Union Treaty, was designed in the summer of 1991 in an attempt to reach agreements that the Soviet Union became a much looser Federation and to reduce political centralism.<\/span><\/p>\n
