En Leitariegos nos encontramos con el t\u00edpico paisaje atl\u00e1ntico propio del Norte de Espa\u00f1a<\/strong>. Pero como sucede en todos los puertos de la vertiente cant\u00e1brica, la\u00a0 vertiente norte es m\u00e1s fresca y h\u00fameda<\/strong> y su vegetaci\u00f3n difiere muy poco de las islas brit\u00e1nicas; bosques de abedul ,roble albar, arce, fresno y acebo colonizan sus monta\u00f1as.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sin embargo en esta vertiente atl\u00e1ntica, aparecen algunos piornos, como el piorno lusit\u00e1nico<\/strong> de flores blancas( Cytisus mutiflorus), que es un endemismo Ib\u00e9rico<\/strong> y igualmente el brezo rosa Erica australis subsp. aragonensis, endemismo ib\u00e9rico ,que tambi\u00e9n coloniza las monta\u00f1as y ocupan \u00a0los claros que se dejan en \u00a0el bosque .Sin embargo la atlanticidad la marca muy bien el brezo blanco (Erica arb\u00f3rea).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

La Cordillera cant\u00e1brica siempre fue para mi uno de las monta\u00f1as donde se manifiesta claramente la influencia Ib\u00e9rica<\/strong>,con sus contrastados climas mediterr\u00e1neos y atl\u00e1ntico.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cuando el a\u00f1o 1993 fui invitado a dar una conferencia en la Universidad de<\/strong> G\u00f6ttingen<\/strong> sobre el paisaje asturiano, me sorprendi\u00f3 que una de las preguntas de uno de los profesores alemanes fue\u2026.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00bfC\u00f3mo es posible que en Asturias \u00a0con un clima oce\u00e1nico se hallen presentes bosques mediterr\u00e1neos como los encinares y alcornocales<\/strong>?<\/span><\/p>\n

Mi\u00a0 respuesta tal vez\u00a0 fuera un poco mas larga que lo que yo comento aqu\u00ed, pero la cercan\u00eda al clima mediterr\u00e1neo, ya en L\u00e9on, al otro lado de la cant\u00e1brica, habr\u00eda facilitado su llegada<\/strong> a Asturias.<\/span><\/p>\n

Un estudio s m\u00e1s detallado, nos obliga a puntualizar algunos aspectos, la encina y el alcornoque ,\u00e1rboles ampliamente distribuidos por el centro y sur de la Pen\u00ednsula<\/strong> Ib\u00e9rica, a su llegada a Asturias, las condiciones ecol\u00f3gicas que encontraron , no le eran favorables y \u00a0no pod\u00edan competir ni con el carball<\/strong>o (Quercus robur)y abedul (Betula celtib\u00e9rica), por lo tanto \u00a0tuvieron que buscar un h\u00e1bitat espec\u00edficos (que los ec\u00f3logos llamamos microhabitas<\/strong>) y as\u00ed lo hicieron, situ\u00e1ndose ,no \u00a0en las zonas llanas como lo hacen en Castilla ,sino \u00a0en las laderas mas soleadas ,que le recordar\u00e1n la sequedad y el calor de\u00a0 sus zonas de origen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Volviendo al Puerto de Leitariegos, \u00a0nos percatamos de la mediterraneidad<\/strong>, en su vertiente sur en direcci\u00f3n a Villablino, cuando aparece ya el melojo (Quercus pirenaica<\/strong>) \u00e1rbol que los fitogeogr\u00e1fos consideran como submediterraneo y que vive en el centro y sur de Espa\u00f1a.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recuerdo que en mis clases de Fitogeograf\u00eda en la Universidad, les dec\u00eda a mis alumnos no pod\u00e9is entender la vegetaci\u00f3n de Asturias sino ten\u00e9is un conocimiento m\u00ednimo<\/strong> de la fitogeograf\u00eda de la pen\u00ednsula ib\u00e9rica (estudio que hizo muy bien Pio Font Quer).<\/span><\/p>\n

In Leitariegos we find the typical North Atlantic landscape of Spain itself. But as in all ports of the Cantabrian, the north side is cooler and wetter and the vegetation differs little from the British Isles, forests of birch, oak, maple, ash and holly colonize the mountains.

\nHowever, in this Atlantic side, there are some brooms, broom lusit\u00e1nico the white flowers (Cytisus mutiflorus), an Iberian endemism and also the pink heather Erica australis subsp. aragonensis, Iberian endemism, which also colonizes the mountains and occupy gaps left in the forest. However atlanticidad well defined white heather (Erica arborea).<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cantabrian Cordillera has always been for me one of those mountains where Iberian clearly shows the influence, with its contrasting Mediterranean and Atlantic climates<\/span><\/p>\n

When in 1993 I was invited to lecture at the University of G\u00f6ttingen on the Asturian landscape, I was surprised that one of the questions from one of the German teachers was<\/span><\/p>\n

How is it possible that in Asturias with an oceanic climate are present Mediterranean forests such as oak and cork? .. My answer might be a bit longer than what I commented here, but the proximity to the Mediterranean climate in Leon,, would have facilitated his arrival in Asturias.<\/span><\/p>\n

A more detailed study forces us to discuss some aspects, the oak and cork oak trees, widely distributed throughout the central and southern Iberia, on his arrival in Asturias, the ecological conditions they found, were not favorable and could not not compete with the oak tree (Quercus robur) and birch (Betula Celtiberian) therefore had to find a specific habitats (microhabitats that ecologists call) and they did standing, not in the plains, as they do in the center of Spain, but in the sunniest slopes, reminding of dryness and heat of the Mediterranean climate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Returning to the Port of Leitariegos, we realize the influence of Mediterranean climate in the south face towards Villablino, when you see the Pyrenean oak (Quercus Pyrenees) tree that fitogeogr\u00e1fos considered sub-Mediterranean and live in central and southern Spain<\/span><\/p>\n

I remember in my classes at the University of Phytogeography, I told my students to understand the vegetation of Asturias have to have a minimal knowledge of the phytogeography of the Iberian Peninsula (study that did very well Pio Font Quer).<\/span><\/p>\n
