Es el caso de la petrolera estadounidense Texaco, adquirida despu\u00e9s por\u00a0Chevron<\/a>, que entre 1972 y 1992 extrajo 1.500 millones de\u00a0barriles de petr\u00f3leo de Ecuador; durante el proceso intencionadamente verti\u00f3 19.000 millones de galones de residuos en la regi\u00f3n y derram\u00f3 17.000 millones de galones de petr\u00f3leo. Algunas organizaciones ecologistas han descrito la situaci\u00f3n como \u00abel peor desastre petrolero del mundo\u00bb.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Texaco oper\u00f3 en todo el distrito amaz\u00f3nico alrededor de 300 pozos, en cada uno de estos pozos ten\u00eda hasta ocho piscinas como dep\u00f3sito de residuos t\u00f3xicos. Unas dos millones de hect\u00e1reas fueron contaminadas de esta manera directa e indirectamente por la filtraci\u00f3n de agua contaminada\u00bb, dijo Jos\u00e9 Luis D\u00edaz, experto del Ministerio de Ambiente ecuatoriano.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
