El \u00edndice de suicidios de los guaran\u00edes brasile\u00f1os es 34 veces mayor al del resto de la poblaci\u00f3n del pa\u00eds<\/span><\/strong>. Los motivos de esta alta tasa son la p\u00e9rdida de tierras ancestrales y los ataques constantes de grupos armados, seg\u00fan Survival International<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan datos recientes, desde el inicio de este siglo cada semana se suicida al menos un ind\u00edgena. De acuerdo con el Ministerio de Salud de Brasil, 56 guaran\u00edes cometieron suicidio en 2012<\/strong>, aunque se cree que la cifra real es mayor debido a que muchos casos no se registran<\/span>, informa la ONG\u00a0Survival International<\/a>,\u00a0que lucha por los derechos de las comunidades tribales del mundo.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nLa mayor\u00eda de los suicidios se dan entre ind\u00edgenas de entre 15 y 29 a\u00f1os<\/span><\/strong>: la \u00faltima v\u00edctima conocida era una adolescente de 17 a\u00f1os, y la v\u00edctima m\u00e1s joven documentada ten\u00eda 9 a\u00f1os.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00abLos guaran\u00edes se suicidan porque no tienen tierra<\/strong>. En los tiempos antiguos \u00e9ramos libres, ahora no lo somos ya\u00bb, se\u00f1al\u00f3 a la ONG Rosalino Ortiz, uno de los miembros de la comunidad ind\u00edgena. Los j\u00f3venes no saben c\u00f3mo seguir viviendo, se desesperan y se suicidan, a\u00f1ade Rosalino.<\/p>\n

En los territorios ind\u00edgenas los rancheros sembraron grandes plantaciones de az\u00facar, soja y alimento para el ganado<\/span>. Despu\u00e9s de la p\u00e9rdida de sus territorios ancestrales las tribus fueron desplazadas a zonas de la selva consideradas \u00abpeligrosas<\/strong>\u00ab, donde viven en p\u00e9simas condiciones y se enfrentan a la malnutrici\u00f3n y otros problemas de salud, as\u00ed como al\u00a0alcoholismo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Stephen Corry, director de Survival International, se\u00f1ala que, desafortunadamente, el caso de los guaran\u00edes no es \u00fanico: otros grupos ind\u00edgenas de todo el mundo tambi\u00e9n sufren las consecuencias de haber sido desterrados de tierras que ellos consideran sagradas.<\/p>\n
